5 Yoga Poses for Beginners
Start Your Yoga Journey
Yoga isn't just about flexibility — it's a powerful practice that reduces stress, improves posture, and brings balance to your mind and body. These 5 beginner-friendly poses can be done in just 10–15 minutes a day, and you'll start feeling the difference quickly.
1. Mountain Pose (Tadasana)
Stand with feet together, spine tall, shoulders relaxed, and arms at your sides. Breathe deeply and feel your weight evenly distributed across both feet. Hold for 30 seconds. This is the foundation of all standing poses and helps improve posture and focus.
2. Cat-Cow Stretch
Start on all fours with wrists under shoulders and knees under hips. Inhale as you lift your head and arch your back (Cow); exhale as you round your spine and drop your head (Cat). Repeat 8–10 times. Great for relieving back tension and spinal stiffness.
3. Downward Facing Dog
From all fours, press your hands into the mat and lift your hips up and back, forming an inverted V-shape. Press your heels toward the floor and keep your back flat. Hold for 30–60 seconds. Effectively stretches the hamstrings and shoulders.
4. Warrior I (Virabhadrasana I)
Step your right foot forward into a lunge, bending the knee to 90 degrees with the left leg extended behind. Raise both arms overhead with palms facing each other, gaze forward. Hold for 30 seconds, then switch sides. Builds leg strength, opens the chest, and improves balance.
5. Child's Pose (Balasana)
Sit back on your heels and fold your body forward, extending arms in front or resting them alongside your body, forehead gently touching the mat. This is the ultimate resting pose — return to it anytime you need a break. Hold for 1–2 minutes, breathing deeply to release tension throughout the body.
Practice Tips
- Practice on an empty stomach or 2 hours after eating
- Use a non-slip yoga mat for safety
- Never force your body beyond its limits — feel a stretch, not pain
- Sync your breath with your movement — this is the essence of yoga
Stay consistent and you'll notice your flexibility and strength quietly improving every day!
